Wallace's Hawk-eagle

Distribution:
Wallace's Hawk-eagle can be found from south Thailand, through Malaysia to Borneo and Sumatra.
Habitat:
This species is generally found in primary and secondary lowland forests.
Characteristics:
It measures approximately 46cm in length and is a boldly patterned eagle with a dark crest. It has rufous coloured sides to the head with black streaks. It has three dark bands on its tail.
Ecology:
The prey of Wallace's Hawk-eagle includes small birds, bats, lizards and skinks. Established pairs usually stay in the nest territories all year round. These nests are normally found deep in forested areas.

Threats:
The main threat to the species is the loss of suitable habitat. Hunting is also likely to be a localised threat.
